Swap plastic sponges for a sustainable cleaning set

The kitchen is the prime place where we create waste at home. If we mix it up here, we can substantially cut down on our plastic (and other) waste and become more sustainable in different ways too. 

Washing the dishes and cleaning might be seen as innocuous actions, but we can constantly improve. The plastic sponge you are using every day releases microplastics into the water system. Those microplastics will end up in the oceans and later in our food chain. When you stop using the sponge, it will end up in a landfill where it will take ages to decompose, and it will create greenhouse gases in the process. An average household uses 25 or more of them each year (1).

There are greener alternatives to artificial, plastic sponges. Nature is wise, and it created a natural, plant-based sponge you can use. Have you ever heard of Spruce? It made from 100% natural and renewable materials , can compost in 5 weeks and one cloth = 15 paper towels !

Alternatively is luffa, It is an edible plant from the cucumber family. When you leave it to mature and dry out, it will form a dense sponge. Use it in the kitchen or bathroom.
